Dr. Richard Betten

As a general practitioner, I see my primary responsibility as maintaining and strengthening your health. During your treatment, I will be available to advise and support you during my consultation hours and will be your reliable contact for all general medical concerns. To ensure you always receive the highest level of care, I place great importance on continuous professional development and keep my medical knowledge up to date.

This is how I work

At your first appointment, I'll take ample time for a detailed discussion to better understand your symptoms and concerns. It's important to me to establish a foundation of trust right from the start, where you feel comfortable and can talk openly about health issues.

This is followed by a thorough physical examination to determine the root cause of your symptoms. Depending on the findings, I may consider additional measures such as blood tests, imaging procedures, or referral to a specialized physician.

A central component of my general practice is prevention. My goal is to detect diseases early or, ideally, prevent them—before they lead to serious health problems.

General medicine is a diverse and demanding field that offers me new insights and challenges every day. It's a rewarding role and a great privilege for me to be able to provide medical support and guidance to people at different stages of life.

About me

I was born in Bonn in 1985, attended school in Münsterland and Cologne, and graduated from high school in Bonn in 2005. I then completed training in the emergency services, completed my community service, and worked. In 2009, I was finally able to begin my medical studies at the University of Witten/Herdecke. The program was already very practice-oriented and sparked my interest in general medicine. After my state examination, I worked in anesthesiology, surgery, and internal medicine. I then completed my residency at a large infectious disease and general practice practice. I then dedicated myself to emergency medicine and worked as an employed emergency physician.

Since 2025, I have been working as a general practitioner again and continue to regularly continue my training. I chose to work at MEINE.Klinik because working in a quiet environment with friendly medical assistants provides a good foundation for long-term care. I also consider the bright spaces and the opportunity to interact with medical colleagues from other disciplines to be a modern work concept.

I live in Cologne with my wife and two children. In my free time, I try to improve my piano and chess skills (although I'm not beyond a basic level in either), play sports, and enjoy being outdoors.
